Qualifications:
8+ years of experience in software engineering, including hands-on development background;
3+ years in engineering leadership roles (Team Lead / Engineering Manager / Head / Director);
Proven experience managing and scaling engineering teams in a service-based (outsourcing/outstaff) environment;
Strong experience in people development: mentoring, performance management, IDPs, and career growth;
Experience building and improving engineering processes, standards, and best practices;
Solid understanding of software architecture and modern development practices;
Hands-on mindset with the ability to contribute technically when needed (up to 50% project involvement);
Experience participating in hiring and technical interview processes, including interviewer training;
Experience working in cross-functional environments (Delivery, Sales, HR, etc.);
Experience in pre-sales activities: estimations, solution design, technical validation, and client communication;
Strong analytical skills with the ability to track performance metrics and identify risks;
Experience working with U.S. or international clients;
Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills;
English level: Advanced;
Location: Lviv (hybrid work format with periodic office visits is required).
Role Overview:
We are looking for an experienced Director of Engineering to lead and scale our engineering department. This role combines strategic leadership, people management, and hands-on technical involvement. The ideal candidate has a strong engineering background, proven leadership experience, and the ability to balance high-level decision-making with active participation in delivery and pre-sales activities. You will play a key role in shaping the engineering culture, processes, and teams, as well as collaborating closely with clients and internal stakeholders.
Responsibilities:
Lead and scale the engineering department, ensuring strong team structure and seniority balance;
Drive people development: career growth, IDPs, mentoring programs, and learning initiatives;
Be actively involved in project work (up to 50% allocation), providing hands-on technical leadership, guidance, and support to delivery teams;
Contribute to pre-sales activities: solution design, estimations, technical validation, and client communication;
Foster a culture of knowledge sharing and continuous improvement;
Participate in hiring: conduct interviews, ensure quality of interview process, and train interviewers;
Support and improve internal engineering processes, standards, and best practices;
Collaborate with Delivery, Sales, HR, and other departments for effective company operations;
Participate in company planning, salary reviews, and technical evaluations.
